1: Bring your own containers everywhere. And we mean everywhere, to the cafe, to the restaurant to the shop - everywhere. That way you can take leftovers home, or get takeaway and no new resources must be used. If it's hot food though - don't put it in plastic, use glass - those pesky micro plastics and chemicals will leach into your food. Yum!
In the same vein bring a reusable coffee cup and water bottle everywhere too. Unless you don't like delicious coffee and free water.....
2: Buy your staples from a bulk food shop. Bringing your own jars/containers to your local bulk food shop for your rice, flour, sugar etc is a great way to be sustainable and to support a local business. It also stops food waste as you need only get the amount you need. Depending on which you go to, you may also be able to buy products that are local, so you reduce transportation emissions. If you live in the inner west of Sydney - or if you fancy a visit - check out mad wholefoods for local, sustainable and package free food and gifts!

3: get (and use) a menstrual cup (if you need one...). Yes, these can be daunting. Yes there are other sustainable options like period underwear and reusable pads. These are great too! But single use tampons and pads - even if they are made from sustainable fibers are still landfill, and they still hurt your wallet! Reusable options like cups, pads and underwear are much better for the planet, your wallet and also your state of mind! No leaks are always awesome :)
4: If you don't need it, don't buy it. The most eco-friendly product is the one you already have. Help normalise re-using stuff.
5: Switch to plant based cleaning products. Chemicals and hormones in cleaning products (among other things) end up in the water supply, or the ocean. You drink water right? Water treatment plants can't remove everything, so then you drink it, and so do the animals, and the herbs you use the tap water on on your windowsill etc. If you want to read more - this article has more detail.
Water filters are a great way to provide your household with chemical free water - but leave in the fluoride - your teeth really do need it!
Be careful of green-washing.... just because a product says its 'green' it doesn't mean it is. Check the ingredients :)
