Sustainability

Tips and tricks to get you started!
So - making sustainable changes in these crazy times can be daunting.
But with a few tips you can gain the confidence to start making real change.
-
Start small. Don't expect to solve climate change overnight, and don't expect ALL your changes to go perfectly. If you start with small, easy swaps or fixes, once you are in the routine, you can add something else.
-
Be aware that you will make mistakes. It's ok, learn from them.
-
Don't believe everything you read, green-washing is real, and it's scary. Just because something says 'green/eco friendly' etc on the label - doesn't mean it is. Check out the blog post on green-washing here
-
You don't have to spend money on pretty looking eco things. SSBG understands it's nice to have attractive things - but remember.... the most eco friendly product is the one you already have.
-
Stop making excuses and just do the thing you know is the right option eg: take the train instead of your car ;)
Ok - here are 5 simple swaps/actions that you can do today. There are plenty of others, but these are easy and visible, so you can encourage others and normalise it!
-
Use a reusable cup for your coffee. Yep, you can buy a pretty one, or grab a mug/jar/other from your kitchen cupboard.
-
Stop (for the love of all living things including your wallet!) buying water in plastic bottles (Now yes, in some countries this might not be possible, SSBG gets it, but buy a big 10/15 litre bottle instead of individual ones!) This is important for the environment, but also your health. Plastic contains many hormones and chemicals that leach out into the water. Get a reusable water bottle (if it must be plastic, get a BPA free one)
-
Use public transport as often as you can.
-
Bring your own container(s) everywhere. Like everywhere. SSBG brings them to cafes, restaurants, anywhere where there might/will be food to be taken away.
-
Bring your own bag everywhere you go.

Ok - five great ways to start. Go on. xo
